(Hat: Topshop, Jumper: C/O Boden (it's kids, but age 13-14 was perfect for a size 6-8, Skirt: Urban Outfitters- old but similar here, Bag: Radley, Shoes: & Other Stories)

There's something about the power of a hat that is truly able to sweep a bit of magic unto the most simple of outfits. Travelling away from home (and the comfort of my own too-packed-to-know-what's-inside wardrobe) means planning ahead when it comes to getting dressed- so being able to throw in small game changers a.k.a the little red beret, truly pack a punch.

After spending a bit of time with my friend Sarah, following Rachel, marvelling at Pandora (who actually looks good in bloody everything) and being a long time lover of Carrie's beret dedication- I considered it time to finally make the plunge and realise that not every one of these little felt hats will make me look like a certain Maurice Moss or Samuel Jackson (a topic both Sarah and Pandora have recently discussed). In fact, within minutes of putting on the beret I went from feeling like Rerun (a nickname Joe kindly kept reminding me of) to listening to Plastic Bertand and Debbie Harry like some kind of '80s powerhouse. Complimented by an in-ear soundtrack of Francois Hardy (one song just to really embrace the fleeting moment) and an outfit that sang true of red, white and blue (and coincidentally in sync with my girl Kbel too)- I felt proud to be ticking all sorts of clichéd Parisian inspired boxes without divulging into one pastry, tres bien!

  9. You've so made me fall in hats recently, I finally took the plunge and bought (and wore!) a floppy hat I had been eyeing up for ages but didn't have the confidence for. I love it!

  12. I always find that berets look super cute on other girls, but I can't see myself wearing them - maybe because I'm actually French? I don't know haha. This is the prettiest 'statement' beret and I love how you styled it, it has indeed a retro vibe!
