After my stint in Manchester working from le coffee shop I can finally understand the appeal of finding somewhere to nestle down for the afternoon with a good brew and your laptop in tow. Although in London I'm less likely to work away from home when I can, having those places you know you can head to when in need of a quiet sanctuary, a meeting or even a reliable and delicious lunch fix is always wonderful- hence why I was so thrilled to discover Nanna's recently.

Tucked just around the corner from Highbury and Islington station (or a stones throw away from Islington's Upper Street), Nanna's is well, exactly what it says on the tin- a vintage inspired haven with an ode to classic cooking and nostalgic interiors. With '70s tiling, armchairs you can practically sink into and a soundtrack of golden oldies and French hits (nope, it's unlikely I'll ever feel so chic again). On top of that the menu is pretty spot on too. Hitting classics such as cheese, red onion and sage toasties on the head (YAS), along with home made cakes and a selection of gluten free goodies too, huzzah!

In case you needed any more persuasion, they are also (as they say) 'VERY dog-friendly'- and if that's not a reason to persuade you, I don't know what is.

  1. So pleased you have discovered this place!

Looks so comfortable and the perfect place to get some work done. Find myself working in coffee shops a lot as a freelancer myself, and it definitely helps if it has the right atmosphere!

  5. I live not too far from there at all. I pass by it on the bus everyday, but I've never gone in. It has always intrigued me from the outside looking in. I should definitely pay it a visit now.

  11. This looks so dreamy. I'll have to put it on my list next time I stop by London. It reminds me of this place called Black Squirrel Books in Ottawa, Canada.

  19. This place looks so cute (and apply named for sure!), pity I'm thousands of miles away, haha.
But it does remind me that I want to try writing in cafes (it's always seemed too much effort), I'm a bit of a homebody when doing anything but still hold an image of JK Rowling penning her novels in a small cafe and that's clearly what all good writers must do ;)
