Welcome to the Grand Floridian...

After our whistle stop visit to New York, we hopped on a plane from Newark to Orlando- to embark on somewhat of a grand finale to a month of flights, border controls and VISA applications- Walt Disney World, of course! Having never visited Florida and seen all of the parks it's safe to say I had the giddiness of a five year old Frozen fan upon landing (which continued over the next few days and equated to a side effect of achey cheeks).

But the magic begun long before we even set foot in any of the parks- pulling in to our hotel, it's safe to say it felt like we were starring in our very own fairytale. The Grand Floridian is one of Disney's central hotels, and its Victorian inspired decor, giant birdcage in the lobby and sightings of Mary Poppins (okay maybe that was at a character breakfast)- had me feeling worlds away from the bustling streets of Manhattan.

Around the world in...a day?

But the parks! Our first day was spent exploring the wonders of Epcot; somewhere I'd heard lots about from Joe (who had visited before), and recognised from it's famous 'golf ball' (a.k.a Spaceship Earth)- but somewhere I was so excited to experience first hand. From what I'd heard, the park is largely known for two main things; it's focus on science (with everything from 'Future World', technology and exploring the 'Seas' and 'Land') and it's incredible World Showcase- 11 reconstructed countries, designed to look, feel and taste like you're actually in each of them- amazing, right?

With the International Food and Wine festival taking place during our stay there- it was hard to resist sampling food from endless global cuisines- instead resisting and just paying fleeting visits to each of them. With everything from stunning Moroccan souks (with authentic Moroccan goods on sale), French crepes in Paris and of course the humble British pub- it felt like every base had been covered, with plenty of blink-and-you'll-miss-it detail (yup, the U.K was all digestives and Downton). It was amazing to see a perfectly Disney interpretation of the world, and with a Frozen ride satisfying my giddy 5 year old too- it was the perfect first day...

Many thanks to Virgin for this incredible trip!

  12. These photos are stunning - especially love the one of the Epcot dome! I last visited Disney Orlando 11 years ago, and even though I was only 7 I vividly remember the Epcot park, was one of my favourite days:)
