The one-night staycation...

One of the biggest treats about living in London is being able to embrace a full city staycation in one of the most beautiful cities sans passport and a 25 minute train journey from home. It doesn't happen often (which arguably makes it all the more special)- but when it does I like to pull out my tourist hat, pack my overnight bag (with a fully charged iPhone to snap it all) and head out of Zone 6 for a night in W1 (or another exciting postcode)...

Anyway- the staycation of conversation was to celebrate the exciting refurbishment of the Grosvenor House, A JW Marriott Hotel; quite the establishment perched on none other than London's beautiful (and, well, iconic) Park Lane. But don't get me wrong- despite being quite an authority (and having been open since the 1920's), this hideaway on one of the city's most special streets was anything other than corporate. With an interior that reminded me of a Kate Spade coffee table book (or even one of their stunning stores)- stripes, rich velvet sofas, macarons in jars and marbled coffee tables with flowers in vases all felt incredibly modern (but not minimal) and characteristic (without being dated)- so much so even reception area smelt beautiful. I have no idea either, but it just made everything all the more wonderful.

With a summer party in the Great Room (where Queen Elizabeth II learnt to skate aged 7), it was the perfect mid-summer British treat to celebrate a temperature over twenty degrees and a hotel more beautiful than Emilia Clarke on a cover shoot. On top of that, it was also an introduction to the incredible Marriott Rewards scheme, a free to join loyalty programme that connects customers with their 4,200 properties across 87 countries- and introduces incredible benefits including late check outs, upgrades, free stays and experiences too (with certain airlines offering air miles too)! I'm all for getting the most out of any experience when I travel, so I was hugely excited about this- and can't wait to share more about being a member soon! I mean if it's free and the suitcase fits...
