...and our last day in Bangkok!

When we were away I joked about how it would be funny to see a flower market other than Columbia Road sitting on this blog, and in complete honesty Bangkok's bustling Flower Market near Chak Phet was worlds away from the 'THREE FOR FIVE PAAAND!' choruses I'm used to on a Sunday morning in the East End. Beginning our day at the Museum of Floral Culture, we were suitably clued up for what to look out for (with my knowledge on blooms now suitably improved)- and we made our way across on a Tuk Tuk to search for supplies for our Loy Krathong celebration in the evening.

With Loy Krathong annually taking place during the full moon of the twelfth lunar month (this year being November), we were lucky to be over during such a special occasion. Although it's celebrated for many reasons, typically the celebration consists of creating a 'krathong' (a twinkling basket made from lotuses, candles and flowers) to float along a lake or river, to give thanks to the goddess of water- which is pretty beautiful when you get to experience it all...

After collecting our supplies, we flew back to the hotel for an afternoon of putting together our krathongs (and realising that I am not a born florist), before heading over to one of Bangkok's beautiful parks, Lumpini Park, to release them into the lake. The park itself reminded me a little of somewhere like Central Park- a huge tree lined space, surrounded by towering buildings, runners dotting each path and a constant buzz from the moment you step outside- which was made all the more beautiful by the handfuls of sparkling krathongs dotted and floating into the lake- making me feel very lucky to be there indeed.

So, after a long flower filled day- our trip had (near enough) come to a close. It was four of the most action-packed, whirlwind, exciting days and I couldn't have felt luckier to have been invited on such a surreal trip- who'd have thunk it? I hope you've enjoyed the few more 'diary-style' travel posts from this trip, and here's hoping 2016 brings the opportunity to create some more!

Thank you again to the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, Vana Belle and Starwood Luxury Collection for such a special trip
