After doing my Marie Kondo extreme tidy at the beginning of this month, it had dawned on me that I'd never really posted about my 'space' before (a fancy way of saying bedroom, FYI)- so I figured, when better to show off where I rest my head than when it's looking all spick 'n' span? It took over 9 hours, nearly 20 black bin liners and a whole lot of motivation (especially post Christmas when James Bond is on and Quality Street are calling), but I'm so thrilled with how much neater everywhere is. Okay, so things weren't exactly messy before, but a lack of order, place and neatness had started to bug me- and it definitely feels so much better knowing where everything is and feeling organised (so much so that I almost wish I'd taken before and after shots). So, I thought I'd put a few of my top 'tidying' tips below, for anyone thinking of doing the same (Omg SO exciting Liv. You maverick, you)...

Do it all at once:
From years of tidying a bedroom reluctantly, and then getting bored half way and throwing everything back on impulse, I've now learnt that indeed, it is best when you just do it. Dedicate a whole weekend, or day to it if you have to- but just do it. Empty everything and don't stop until everything has it's place, rubbish is in bags and you a little like a weight has been lifted off of your shoulders. I promise it'll be so worth the slog.

Be frivalous:
In Marie's book, her 'big thing' is that if the item doesn't bring you joy, get rid of it. If you can't find happiness, memories or know why you have something- then get rid. It's so easy to hold on to things for the sake of it, but once you rid of things you'd forgotten you had (surely something can't bring happiness if it's stuffed at the bottom of a box?) then you'll feel so much better, and happier with the things you do have and love.

Keep order:
Make sure when you put everything back, everything has it's rightful place. Put important documents all in one place, photos in one and try and organise things like your wardrobe, and drawers, if you can. I tend to have all trousers folded in one place, knits in another and then dresses, coats and tops all hung in colour order so I can navigate what I'm looking for easily. I've also started displaying make up in clear storage drawers, as found that when it was out of sight, it was definitely out of mind too!

Do it alone:
The hardest thing when having a big sort out is having someone tell you 'oh but I love that!' or 'ah I'd forgotten you had that!'- making getting rid of things so much more of a challenge. Do it alone (and in quiet if possible), and I can guarantee you'll find it one hundred times easier and quicker. Good luck!

  1. Your room is so, so beautiful! Although, I didn't really expect anything else!

I definitely need to be a lot more frivolous when it comes to having a clear out of my own stuff, I'm way too sentimental for my own good!

  10. Your room is so unbelievably beautiful! I love your home decor and especially all the pastel colours. So gorgeous! As soon as I get out of my student house I am getting that anthropology wallpaper. I find it really difficult to sort out my room when it's not a permanent place for me... I think it'd be much easier if I was in my own place!

  44. Your room is so beautiful! Want to swap hahaha I'm really bad where I get sentimental with items.. I still have my uniform from primary school (maybe) and high school in my wardrobe.. And I keep heaps of school work! Only recently did I do a clear out of school work and now what's left of education type stuff is projects and models I've made from uni. I have thrown or maybe destroyed a few models and assignments which were complete disasters haha! Em xx
