A Girl's Best Friend - By Lindsey Kelk

Its no secret that I'm a bit of a Lindsey Kelk fangirl , I've previously written about my love for her here, so upon tucking into her latest delectable Christmas read felt it only right to have a little natter about that, before a little Christmassy offering from the wonderful lady herself...

But the book! One of my favourite ways to get myself into the festive spirit around this time of year (excluding George Michael, Smooth Christmas and Jude Law in The Holiday) is cosying up with a seasonal Christmas read. Being able to pull out something festive on groggy dark train journeys, under fairy lights in bed and with a bowl of porridge in the morning just can't be beat, and 'A Girl's Best Friend' by Lindsey Kelk is the perfect balance of escapism, all the giggles, falling in love with the characters so much you're half tempted to Whatsapp them for advice and perfect twenty-something relatable life lessons. If you've read any of Kelk's I Heart series, some of the characters will be all too familiar (I seriously recommend tucking in to those too, but it's not necessary if you want to get stuck in to this straight away) and with the worlds of Tess, Angela, Jenny and Amy colliding- it's the perfect book to get totally sucked in to (to the point where you may accidentally find yourself browsing the BA website for flights to New York. Ahem) and fly through this Christmas. Dreamy.

Now, on top of that wee review, the wonderful author herself (and serious beauty aficionado) has kindly offered some last minute festive gift buying advice to my dear readers- and who better to take the advice from? Over to you Lindsey...

Top Five Gifts for a Girl’s Best Friend

Clearly there are a million amazing gifts you could give your bestie but this is what will be at the top of my Christmas list when I’m shopping for my friends this year. And myself. I have a problem.

1. Beauty Advent Calendars – I can’t get enough of these. I love the Benefit and Charlotte Tilbury ones for beauty junkies and the one from The Body Shop just looks amazing. I’d also rip your arm off for the Diptyque version but at 250 quid, that would have to be a VERY good friend.

2. SkinnyDip London anything – I just picked up a couple of phone covers and a laptop case for one of my friends when I was in Topshop Oxford Circus (and a luchador mask handbag for myself, cough) but these super cute, super cool goodies make perfect gifts as they’re really fun but you probably wouldn’t spend the money on yourself. Unless you’re me and you’ve got no shame, obvs.

3. Urban Decay Vice 4 palette – everyone knows I’m a UD devotee but I really didn’t expect to love this palette until I got it in my hands. Haven’t had it off my face since, it’s total love. And it’s just big enough and weighty enough to make a really lovely gift.

4. Proper PJS – I’ve developed an obsession with proper, proper pyjamas. I blame The Mindy Project. Victoria’s Secret always have great Christmassy options or, easier to find, I picked up some from the Rosie Huntington-Whitely range in M&S last week (Rosie for Autogtraph Breast Cancer Now Abstract Print Revere Collar Pyjamas, fact fans) and I haven’t taken them off since. Apart from when I have to leave the house. Sadness.

5. Box of chocolates, bottle of bubble bath and a good book – one of my favourite things to do at Christmas is buy things for my friends that I know they wouldn’t spend money on themselves and I’ve a particular fondness for a good old gift basket. Nice box of chocs, delish bubble bath or a nice blanket for snuggling up, maybe a sheet mask and then a DVD or a book, whatever floats their boat. Can’t be beat.

  12. I've already bought all of my bestfriends gifts, but I love all five topics. One of them IS chocolate. She's just as addicted to chocolate as I am. It's one of the reasons why we understand each other so much.

I'd love to get some PJS.

  20. I absolutely love this recommendation and I've been looking for a book to read but couldn't find any I'm in the mood for. This looks perfect! I haven't read the first two in the series- do you think that will make a difference or should I start with number 1?

    Thanks!

    1. Not at all! All the characters are introduced subtly, so you never feel like you don't get what's going on xxx
