Valentines Day DIY Ideas What Olivia Did
I've never been one to get all that creative during Valentines Day. I hear people sharing their grand gestures of giving a gift an hour, drawing beautiful portraits on hand made cards (must. start. drawing. again) and cooking four course romantic meals with ingredients that could only ever be found in the darkest depths of Whole Foods. Now, I love the sentiment behind the day, the idea of sharing something special with someone you're pretty fond of (bleurgh) and telling them that they're actually pretty alright- but when it comes to buying extravagant gifts; although I'm prone to a nosey in Topman- would rather fill a card with nice words and a jar with ahem... flour? Either way, I've popped together a few of my little silly Valentines ideas for you if you're feeling uninspired in the lead up- but just remember, it'll be the 15th before you know it!

Get in the kitchen, sort of...
Valentines Day DIY Ideas What Olivia Did
I think I must've initially spotted this little idea on Pinterest, but it was one of the cutest DIY's I'd seen in a while, and is probably the most glamorous way of giving 'ready-made/bake-at-home' cakes as a gift (especially if it's something your popping in the post). In short, take a favourite recipe of your Valentine's (I've opted for brownies here; but I know cookies would be great too and you can add in all the choc chips), and pop all of the dry ingredients in a jar so they can make it themselves at home in a flash! If you fancy, you can also add in a handwritten note (with the recipe, and how much butter/eggs they'll need too)- but it's the thought that counts!

Get your Art Attack on!
Valentines Day DIY Ideas What Olivia Did
If you don't fancy getting too arty, drawing a card that ends up resembling a Chris Simpsons Artist piece or getting PVA all on your fingers (like that's ever a problem)- just create some easy wrap! I picked up some cute stamps from stationary favourite Paper Mash, snapped up some gold paint and brown paper and used the rubber at the end of a pencil to splodge on some tactically arranged dots. Paperchase, eat your heart out.

Make something small (and novelty)...
Valentines Day DIY Ideas What Olivia Did
Another cute spot on the 'net that I thought I'd tackle (lol) myself- the mini grow-your-own donuts! This is more something to pop inside a card, but if your lover is a fan of the deep fried dish (and you're stuck for ideas), than this is a pretty cute way of giving something small with maximum effect (just make sure you have some Krispy Kremes handy for afterwards)...

Go independent!
Valentines Day DIY Ideas What Olivia Did
...and if you really cba with DIY (all the abbreviations) then try and buy independent! There are so many wonderful crafty people out there who are more than happy to do the legwork for you when seasonal holidays come by, so pick your loved one (or y'know, yourself) up something special without setting foot in to Clintons (soz Clintons). I'm a huge fan of Emily's McDowell's card designs, but have also listed a few of my favourite indie sellers below for some adorable ideas that'll have your Valentine at hello- including these personalised spoons (imagine a proposal during a hot chocolate) and some naughty sweets...

SMUG for gorgeous prints | Emily McDowell for LOL cards | Lazy Oaf for LOL cards x2 | The Cutlery Commission for something special | Ask Mummy & Daddy for cheeky sweets | Rifle Paper Co for dreamy cards and stationary | Jaymie OC for personalised illustrations
