As outfits go, this probably isn't my most imaginative or down right crazy- but hey, it's what I wore. Don't tell anybody- but I spend an incredibly large percentage of my time tucked away in jeans and a t shirt (be it striped or adorned with some crazy art work) so this combination is pretty fail safe, especially when teamed with my go-to leather jacket and oversized fedora (one day I'll stop wearing hats. Maybe). I'd like to think I'm a bit of a poor mans (beggars) Natalie/Dylana (yeah a girl can dream) when wearing something like this, so I tactfully added my leopard print Chelsea boots to add a little vintage inspired spin on the look - although I have far to go to look half as cool.

Anyway- this t shirt in particular is one of my favourites. I've had it a pretty long while, but it's spent more time cuddled in the washing basket due to excessive use (be it in this context or used as a very cool pj top) so as soon as it was ironed I hung it up and vowed to finally shall you all it. Additionally (or probably what I should have mentioned first) is that I'm a pretty big Bowie fan, so this subtle nod to Mr Stardust was the perfect remedy to tide me over until his comeback a few weeks ago...

Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo

Okay okay, I couldn't resist- when pulling this shirt from my wardrobe it seemed only necessary to add the 'Rhinestone Cowboy' lyrics to this post's title and be done with it, and if I'm being honest- it's probably the closest to the wild west I'm going to get in a while. This shirt, however brings a little bit of rodeo to an otherwise prim wardrobe- and I even felt like a bit of a maverick bearing my bare shoulders (only until I cuddled up in this beautiful Olive cardigan, of course). But on to more important things- this post comes in line with my first ever post as a Dahlia Girlfriend! I couldn't quite believe it when the email popped into my inbox saying I'd been selected alongside Dunya and Arabella- but having always been in awe of girlfriends of Dahlia past, I was completely ecstatic- and can only hope I do the role justice! Here's to lots more Dahlia filled fun- check out my first post for them here!

It seems in the last few weeks, my look of choice has been the chap from the Quaker oats cereal box- if it includes a white shirt and white brimmed house, please- count me in. Hopefully soon my love of millinery will fade and you'll be able to see my head again, but until then outfits will definitely include a daft fedora. On this occasion I opted to team it with this gorgeous tile print dress from In Love With Fashion- which is the most gorgeous shape and has a super lovely tie waist, making it a little different from the many shift shapes I own. But back to business- today was spent exploring the depths of East London, and primarily paying a visit to The Music Circle's Rumble in the Jumble Part 2...

Hosted by the babe that is Gemma Cairney and raising money for abused women in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Oxfam’s Get Together for International Women’s Day- this is a jumble sale to out-jumble any other (and the cause is a-mazing). After arriving just after opening, I dragged Joe inside, donated my bag of jumble and got stuck in- and was SERIOUSLY impressed by what I came across. Seriously. Discovering cast-off gems from the likes of Annie Mac, Tinie Tempah, and Fearne Cotton (and food from Drink Shop Do and the lovely Ms Erskine)- if it was possible to fan-girl at clothing, I definitely did (and I felt a helluva lot better with my impulse buying, knowing it was all going to charadee).

I managed to blag myself Edith Bowman's a-mazing bomber jacket (it may or may not have a Union Jack reversible inside), a book I've been dying to read since the film came out and some J.W Anderson for ALDO shoes- all for under a nifty. It was an absolutely AMAZING event (caps and all)- and I may have even gone home Googled it, and prayed it was a two day event (alas, it is not...) ten pats on the back for you The Music Circle- I look forward to next years! P.S If you couldn't make the event today- buy a raffle ticket! There's some F-A-B prizes up for grabs, you'd be a fooligan not to...

With last weekends blankets of snow gradually disappearing, bar the current smattering of snow falling outside of my window- Sunday's belated festive weather seems like a bit of a memory (ignoring the fact it's everywhere else in the UK and trains are still delayed, of course). Although I love the summer months, and being able to throw any dress, or shorts and t shirt combination on as I wish- without thinking of the many layers to follow (3-4 at present), there's something I enjoy about planning all the details of a warm, wintry outfit. This little get together comes as no exception, with the fedora, fur shawl and stunning Soomin for Anthropologie scarf acting as the perfect trio- with the scarf bringing the perfect burst of colour to a pretty monochrome outfit (it just like, totally, works with the snow, right?)...

What Olivia Cooked: Macarons

IMG_8774pp Ever since being introduced to these tasty little bad-boys by my (far more cultured) friend Genevieve, I've been in love with them. With my first encounter with them being along a rain soaked Ladurée on the Champs Elysees- my view on them has always been slightly romanticised (not that I'm complaining) and I've always been a little scared about trying them out for myself.

However- fear not, having received some pretty awesome recipe books for Christmas (my favourite being GBBO's 'Learn to Bake'), I was able to work out a simple recipe to create a pretty impressive little treat (ignoring the fact mine look a little like whoopie pies...) anyway- the show must go on...
IMG_8704p
You will need:
- An electric whisk (or a REAL fast arm)
-2 large egg whites
- a good pinch of salt
- 60g caster sugar
- 65g ground almonds
- 80g icing sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla essence (or you could try other flavours) OR cocoa powder
- Pink food colouring

For the filling:
- 150g white chocolate
- 110g unsalted butter
- 200g icing sugar
- Pink food colouring
IMG_8713p
1. Add the salt to the egg whites and whisk until the whites are well, white. It will go foamy at first, but should eventually stand up in soft peaks (ooh technical).
IMG_8719p
2.Add the caster sugar a spoonful at a time- whisking in between. By this point the soft peaks should be stiff and able to stand up alone.
IMG_8728p
3. Sieve the ground almonds and icing sugar in to the mixture, trying to keep it as smooth as possible- eventually adding the food colouring. Gently fold the mixture together using a wooden/large spoon, in order to not lose any of the air that's been whisked in until you have a smooth and equal coloured mixture.

IMG_8734p
4. Draw 20 5cm circles (or as many as you'd like- providing it's an equal number- I used a small lid as a template) across a baking sheet- before turning the sheet template over. Use two spoons to dollop the mixture onto the circles gently, trying to keep them as 'shapely' as possible.

IMG_8741p
5. Bang down the baking sheet onto a worktop to get rid of any air bubbles and leave to stand for 30 minutes so the macarons can form a 'skin'. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees, and eventually bake for 15-20 minutes until they feel firm to touch. Leave to cool on a wire rack.

6. While they cool- it's filling time! I chose to make a basic butter cream with added white chocolate- fail safe! Mix the soft butter with icing sugar until they form a well blended mixture. Melt the chocolate (either in a microwave or over boiling water on the hob) and blend with the butter mixture. Allow to cool and spread into the middle of your macarons, sandwiching them together- perfect!

Okay let's face it, if you haven't looked at this outfit and thought 'yeti' or 'Sulley' (Monsters Inc, duh) than I salute you- because hey, there's not a dissimilar resemblance here. But if Sulley was into high street fashion trends and wanted to pretend he was from the seventies every time he went exploring in the snow- then I think I've nailed the look. However, saying that- I love this coat. A lot. After trying it on a couple of times after various trips to Topshop, mulling over it more than a festive wine and subsequently seeing it (and missing it) go into the Topshop sale, it quickly became the 'coat I should have bought'. Luckily with the help of the internet, and a certain Miss Mitchell I was able to get my mitts (or paws) on it, and I'm very happy I did.

Also- look! A white background! SNOW! If you've not been under a rock for the last few days you'll know we've been graced with the presence of a lot of the fluffy (blooming cold) white stuff. I won't harp on as you've probably seen enough of that already, but having been pretty much snowed in today, I've certainly made the most of a good old Sunday afternoon- taking a leisurely walk (snow angels included), preparing a macaroon recipe for tomorrows post and catching up with lots of blogs, which has been pretty lovely. Anyway, time for films and pj's (it's safe to say my current attire is far less glamorous than this afternoons...) stay warm!

If you were in or around East London on Sunday, it's likely you may have heard my bellowing of 'TEN FOR FIVE PAND, GET YER TULIPS' in an attempt at perfecting my market seller voice, just in case my dreams of writing fail. I was out visiting the gorgeous Columbia Road with some of my best ladies, and despite the temperature lingering at the 0 mark, we managed to mingle amongst the beautiful blooms (with me getting slightly carried away and investing in 3 bunches of tulips, roses- and subsequently a basket to hold them all in) and pop into a bakery I'd been desperate to go to for a while, Lily Vanilli- before continuing along the bustling street.

Of course, no trip to anywhere with Kristabel, Carrie, Lucy and Dunya is ever complete without whiling away a few hours in somewhere serving some good ol' grub. We opted for the Breakfast Club, and spent a good few hours giggling, chatting (with probably the occasional badly sung song on my part) and indulging on fry ups, stacked syrupy pancakes and lots of sugary tea (sounds good right?)- a pretty wonderful Sunday afternoon if you ask me!
