Until about 2011, I didn't like burgers. I know, I know. WHAT DID I EVEN EAT (Pizza Express FYI). Maybe I saw it as a Rachel from Friends trifle situation, maybe I thought it as an over ambitious sandwich- but either way, I was missing out. But fear not, nowadays I completely relish a good burger (pun definitely intended) and have since taken full advantage of the 'burger trend' in our fair capital (and of course, Instagrammed along the way), and been doing the rounds at some of the beefiest hang outs (not sure what that means either) and even included one of my favourite's in France too, flash 'eh!
IMG_1104p Honest Burgers
If I ever want a burger, ever this is where I will go. For 10 British pounds you can pick up an amazing burger (with only the finest meat from Ginger Pig- ooer), rosemary chips that you will inhale (not literally) and homemade lemonade (it comes in a jar, too)! Like most ickle burger places, they don't take bookings- so get there early. So. Much. Good.
IMG_1111p Patty & Bun
Maybe it's a rosemary chips thing (it definitely is) but this place is like the dirty honest burger. It's a little juicier, a lotta messier (the napkins on the table are there for a reason, folks) and a hella good. Joe and I left on what can only be described as a 'burger high', plus they even do chicken wings- what mavericks.
2 IMG_1322p Byron/GBK
''Omgz you included a chain. How mainstream.'' Whatever- no matter where I am in the country, I will (nearly) always be able to find a GBK or in London, a Byron. Byron were the first burgers to get me, erm, 'in to' burgers- and they're bloody great. Plus, unlike a lot of burger joints, do deserts- and who can resist s 'shake 'n' brownie after a slap up?
IMG_1325p Blend
Most people go to Paris for frois gras/snails/frogs legs (or so I've heard). Joe and I go for burgers. After spotting this hang out on Rachel Khoo's blog we took note and headed early. Before about 10 minutes it was full, and it was awesome. The waiters speak everything burger, and although there's no Heinz ketchup, it's deliciousio.
1 Bukowski
Hidden on Shoreditchs Boxpark, this little hangout is perfect for a sunny day- you can enjoy a burger OUTSIDE. It's the future. Although the burgers are a bit peppery (all good fo' you condiment kids) they're pretty good, so if you're in the area, and the weather is grand- head here.
IMG_1109p BURGER PLACES I HAVEN'T TRIED BUT HAVE HEARD GOOD THINGS ABOUT:
- Meat Liquor/Meat Market (the fact I haven't been is probably burger blesphemy)
- Dirty Burger (near my favourite chicken restaurant, Chicken Shop)
- Lucky Chip (one day I will get a table at the Sebright Arms)
- Tommi's Burger Joint
- Burger and Lobster
IMG_1324p
Bon appetit! Other burger recommendations on a postcard!

  2. I wasn't always a massive burger fan either and definitely have to be in the mood for one. I got served a burger recently which was wrapped in a tortilla instead of a bun - it was amazing! Yay for burgers! xx www.queenieandthedew.com

  5. God god this is my ideal post. My most recent blog post is about Byron. The messier the better in my humble opinion. Meat liquor is king! What about burger and shake?

  7. Oh god, now I have serious burger cravings. My famous right now is Manchester's Almost Famous, they make the most amazing, filthy burgers!

  9. I love burgers, unfortunately in Belgium we don't have so much choice as in the UK! Next time I'm in London I'll definitely check out these places. Last time my boyfriend and I were in London, a friend of his who works in the niehgbourhood took us to a restaurant called Café Boheme (Old Compton St) where in his opinion, they have "the best burgers ever" :) they were really, really good!

Now I really want one. Yum.

  10. BOOKMARKED

I had a GBK yesterday with a peanut butter milkshake. There was only one way to describe the feeling on leaving: thrilled guilty pain. Honestly, I was so full it took at least an hour to feel almost normal again.

    It was marvelous.

If you're ever in Manchester try Almost Famous Burger. It's pretty hipster but also pretty darn tasty!

  14. You probably avoided burgers because British burgers are a sad state of affairs, at least for the most part. I'm glad they're improving things! The Diner has amazing burgers as well, and cheese fries woohooo! Mmm burgers...

  17. Meat Liquor does some decent burgers but the waiting to get in, waiting by the front doors, waiting by the bar, finally getting a table and waiting a while for service / for your food to come - that's the only annoying thing I found about them. Other recommended burger joints: Maxwells in Covent Garden slash their prices on Mondays and their burgers are insanely good. I also like Prezzo's burger they do. It comes out on a little wooden board too and I like that :) x x

  22. I like Meat Liquor but they are more like a glorified mcdonalds type burger, nice though. I prefer a more Byron type burger that's chunky rather than a patty. Really want to try Patty & Bun now though, the wings sound amazing x

  24. I don't recommend Meat Liquor- it's so dark in there you literally can't see a thing, it smells a bit odd and the burgers are far too greasy, like you feel properly sick after eating there, and not in a good way. Honest Burger and Patty&Bun FTW though!x

  28. I know it's a bit far away, but if you're ever in Ontario, Canada then you have to hit up 'The Works'. 71 different types of burgers - not your conventional ketchup, mustard and relish type burger. And their decor is fabulous. Your salt and pepper shakers are upside down lightbulbs and your drink comes in a measuring cup. Not to be missed! http://www.worksburger.com/Menu.aspx#

  30. Is it wrong that I want to take a trip to London in the summer mostly for a chance to eat lots of nice burgers? I'm a massive burger lover too, I think my new favourite was one I tried in Manchester's Northern Quarter at the weekend, I've got an ever expanding list of places I can go for the best burgers.
