(Jacket: Whistles, Shirt: Whistles, Hat: Camden Market, Jeans: American Apparel, Shoes: C/O Sarenza, Bag: C/O Baia, Bangle: Monki)

In all fairness, I do look a little bit motorbike rocker in this combination, and it's arguably a tiny light year away from my usual school-girl shirt collar combination, but with jeans being my go-to item of choice teaming them with dark green spot print blouse and worn in biker jacket ad boots- seemed like the done ('cool') thing to do. I also teamed this a-mazing bag I was so so kindly gifted by Baia bags (check those studs)- which came with the most gorgeous personalisation in the inside, a completely wonderful surprise and the perfect finishing touch to my slightly more edgy outfit! Pow.

On a slightly less edgy note, this week I was invited to Corpus Christi College at Cambridge University (alliteration o'clock), to give a small talk on blogging and the media- to which it is safe to say I was remarkably terrified about. After arriving early (I initially planned to have an intense exploration of the city) I found myself swamped with nerves, and instead headed to the super adorable Fitzbillies cafe in order to stock up on Kalms, heart shaped biscuits and sugary tea, in a measly attempt to distract myself and relax a little.

Overall the talk went ok. If you did come and are reading THANK YOU for listening to my stuttering/embarrassing grammatical slips 'I has been blogging...'/and occasional self inflicted awkward silences- I really appreciate your time, and helping me overcome one of my biggest fears: public speaking (anyone from school would tell you how red I went in a history lesson when asked to talk...)

Despite me being a nervous Purvis, following the talk I was given a gorgeous night time tour of the city, which included strolling the twinkling rain splattered pavements, browsing the colourful parades of shops, visiting the stunning bridges and the fantastically grand and other-worldly colleges- which was like exploring the grounds of Hogwarts- completely unbelievable and flawless. I also experienced a Halloween formal at the college, which was a real giggle, and met some lovely ladies- so thank you ever so much for having me!

Finally, I'm so thrilled with the response to my last Breast Cancer post- it was for such a worthy cause and Sarah's Raffle did AMAZINGLY (hurrah) so thank you to all that clicked through. I also had a good response in regards to beauty posts (despite slightly failing in the beauty lingo department) so would love to know if you fancy any thing else make-up based? Although it seems my only real forte is lipsticks...

(All products available via the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Shop Here, with a percentage going to Breakthrough Breast Cancer)

Now, as you may know I've never been one to try my hand at beauty blogging- and although this only a very fine attempt at a beauty post (if you'd even call it that- I probably wouldn't), it's all in aid of a hugely important and extremely worthy cause- so need I say more.

Every October- for Breast Cancer awareness month, brands across the great British high street and online, generally create or select certain exclusive (and often limited products)- mainly in gorgeously girlie pink colours to help raise both awareness and money for the amazing charity that is Breakthrough Breast Cancer. This year, of course, is no different- but I have to say there are some seriously lovely things out there (yes Ciate have some limited edition shades, Marks and Sparks have some super saucy undies and Laura Ashley have some amazing bed linen- you heard it here first) and all for a very very good cause...

Anyway, above I've snapped a selection of the bargain beauty pieces available, all of which are to an extremely high quality (guessed why I'm not a beauty blogger yet?) With rich pink creamy lipstick, glossy tinted lip balm and a coordinated nail file to wrap it all up- these are just a few of the pieces available for you to do your little part (and hey- tackle stocking fillers at the same time!)

I also want to give a little mention to a post Sarah published over at her blog this week regarding a seriously amazing bloggers raffle being held this Friday! I won't go into too much detail as she has written an incredibly helpful post HERE- so please please hop on over and get involved, as again it's all going to help girls like YOU who need it (and dare I say there's some great prizes; think Warehouse, Matalan, Cath Kidston...) so please do have a look as she has worked her little pink socks off!

Thank you for reading, let's help beat Breast Cancer.

(Suit: Warehouse, Shirt: Topshop, Shoes: Loaned from Jimmy Choo)

Now, where to begin with this suit. Apart from the fact I am going all Twilight Bella on it (‘uncontrollably and irrevocably in love with it’- not that I know any quotes or anything) it’s probably one of my favourite things in my wardrobe. After seeing it on a shoot a few weeks back, knowing I needed it and inevitably waiting until it had sold out everywhere I became almost desperate (and yet equally indecisive) to buy it- and after finally realising I had the last pair in my size in my ASOS basket it was a given- and I couldn't be more pleased.

Although it’s arguably a little 70’s (I may have seen a suit similar at the Biba exhibition) and the print is certainly more daring when in suit form, I'm already pretty excited to wear it as separates, with casual t shirts, and also channelling the full androgynous look. On this occasion I went full blown pyjama lady, and teamed it with this blouse from Topshop and some clashing courts just to really throw you all off track- despite it not being entirely appropriate attire for this weather (you can all have a chuckle at this out take from the photos if you like...)

How would you wear a printed two piece like this? I'm desperate to be as inventive as I can, and have also seen a gorgeous navy tartan one on the Warehouse website- but I think that's for another time...

Inspired by eras gone by, the pieces channel a modern twist on classic looks, each item carefully handmade and designed to be worn with love. With Mod Dolly now stocking the lust-worthy Crown & Glory and 10 new dress designs available on the website- along with 30 more coming in November, it's simply too good to miss out on (I heart the Amber Tartan dress)!
starw
The Strawberry Sisters is written by the stunning Emily and Beth, two gorgeous red headed sisters with a penchant for fashion, food and fabulous cocktails- what's not to love? With food photography gorgeous enough to make your tummy rumble (and recommendations of where to find it), gorgeous DIY's to get under your belt (erm, HELLO DIY Miu Miu's!) and shopping trips and dresses to make your heart skip a beat these girls are seriously in the know, and their gorgeous blog is a first stop for my fashion and foodie quandaries (oh and recipes, these ladies do it all).
ste
Not only is Stephs Blog a collection of honest beauty reviews, must-do DIYs, enviable cool outfits (I sometimes wonder if there's anything she couldn't pull off... Yup, she can even work a Cowgirl Jessie outfit) and stunning places to visit; but she's one of the lovliest people ever (yeah I know her red hair is L'Oreal worthy...). With her blog being one of my favourite beauty, lifestyle AND fashion blogs- a visit should be in order from you all (don't get too envious of her Florida holiday snaps like I did!)
just
Twenty year old Sheri is the uber talented and doubly gorgeous lady behind, 'Just Blog It All Instead' (trust me, if you don't fall in love with her style- you'll be lusting for her beaut of a barnet). Her blog is a sunny mix (even in Autumn) of gorgeously girlie outfits (she knows her floral prints, ladies), perfectly photographed blue skied adventures by the sea, must have recent buys, beauty tips and tricks all wrapped up with Sheri's beautiful smile. If you fancy getting lost in a fuzzy warm feeling blog, then I seriously suggest you head over here pronto- the perfect pick me up for these rainy Autumn days!

Having met the lady herself at last seasons fashion week, I can confirm her as lovely as her blog presents- go go go!
thestyletag
The Style Tag is definitely one of those blogs that when you discover it, you give yourself a tiny kick for not finding it sooner. Plus, if you're not instantly wowed by Lauren's beauty (have you SEEN her hair) and Chung-esque knack for styling (this girl can rock a leather pencil skirt like no other) then I don't know what will (I do fear Lauren could look good in a bin-bag). Not a blog for those who suffer from wardrobe envy, Lauren has the most awesome clothing collection ever and pulls everything she wears off with complete ease- how does she do it?
SECRET
Created by the gorgeous Laura (with a red glossy barnet certainly worth envying) Secret Diary of a Fashion Journalist exhibits only the most covetable of pieces (we're talking that Missguided sequin sleeve jacket, disco pants and some seriously gorge printed dresses). This lovely lady also treats us to some hot-to-trot beauty tips along with recipes that will see you hot footing it to your kitchen cupboards- perfect!
veuxdoo
Established in 2012, after it's talented founder was awarded a degree in Fashion- Veuxdoo aim to 'provide the girl on the high street with some edgy basics that will make everyone envious of her individual style'- which in my opinion is a pretty accurate description. Adorned with beautiful vintage garments, that have been given a new lease of life- this online shop has some of the most desirable items at a price simply as lovely- race you to the space shorts!

wonderfulyou
Where do I start with the absolute beauty that is Megs at Wonderful You? Not only does she post enviably gorgeous outfits, film interesting beauty Youtube videos and tutorials (girl can work the red lippy), make and sell her own cute and crafty pieces- but damn she's a lovely person, and one of the most down to earth blogs I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Keen on guest posting- this girl would be a delight to have on anyone's blog, so I definitely suggest you hop skip and jump over her way!
thedustontheground
The Dust On The Ground comes from gorgeous 21 year old Leeds living- Lizzie who as well as having some seriously cool style (don't mess with a girl who can work a good red lip) has some amazing photography based posts which I know we all go a little bit weak at the knees for. But it doesn't stop there- Lizzie also has some pretty damn good music taste, so look out for brilliant song recommendations at the end of each post (the perfect topping after some seriously inspiring outfits!)
ella
The gorgeous Ella Masters is simply one of the loveliest ladies I have had the pleasure of meeting; and additionally has one of the most gorgeous blog's going- can the girl step a foot wrong? By day Ella is a 23 year old teaching assistant with a degree in fine art, but also maintains her blog has a stunning jewellery business, RubyRaeLove. Think of it like this; if you love beautiful illustrations, original ideas, gorgeous photos and a healthy mix of outfit posts- this should be your first stop shop.

Founded by utterly creative Hannah, Epanoui is a stunning contemporary jewellery site, filled with pieces created with the most stunning gem stones and crystals it promises to ooze individuality, and describes itself as being 'an eclectic mixture of colour, texture, modern and vintage elements all intricately woven together' which is pretty spot on. With her blog consisting of eclectic fashion posts, simple DIY's, lust worthy shopping sprees, wish lists and some gorgeous inspiration it's the perfect way to while away a rainy afternoon- plus, I absolutely love her latest Tim Walker post (with some behind the scenes quotes from a lecture her gave, go go go!)
sallytangle
Written by Carlisle based Sally Crangle, Sally Tangle is a beautifully whimsical fashion blog, with snippets of beautifully crafted outfits and equally inspiring mood boards- all wrapped up with story-like writing (which is always a winner in my books). With her photographs making her blog somewhat like a beautiful diary, it's easy to get lost in Sally's day-to day musings and continually keeps me coming back to see what she's been up to. Just lovely.

(Hat & Blouse: Topshop, Dress: C/O Hedonia, Bag: C/O Marc B, Shoes:Sarenza)

Although these photographs were taken this afternoon in the midst of the drizzly rain and wind- I somehow managed to snap what I was wearing without looking all too much like a drowned rat (although if you have seen my Twitter, you'll know that shooting my other outfit wasn't quite as simple...) and discovered, a hat really is my best friend when I'm not parading around in my Paddington bear hooded duffle; even if 'Pilgrim chic' does spring to mind.

I also debuted one of my new favourite dresses, which was a delightful surprise from the wonderful Kay at Hedonia. I'd seen a dress similar on my talented friend Shannon, and in my local Topshop- so the arrival of this bad-boy to my wardrobe couldn't have come at a better time- and it's a perfect staple/pinch of school uniform that my wardrobe always welcomes- with the addition of stunning metallic detailing and the most flattering skirt shape. Additionally, I teamed it with my burgundy Marc B bag (which has the most gorgeous gold detailing and leopard lining) and coordinated Rimmel lipstick, because it's all about matching lips with accessories nowadays right? (Nope, thought not)

What Olivia Cooked; Mary Berry's Flapjacks

Friday, 19 October 2012

IMG_2950
After the finale of the best baking programme on television (or best programme full stop), it seemed the best way to curb my Mary Berry and Paul 'I-could-swim-in-your-eyes' Hollywood withdrawal symptoms was to crack on with testing out some of Queen Berry's recipes. I opted for one of the more simpler sweet options; and was pleasantly surprised by how outstandingly easy a damn good flapjack is-something I've always believed to be ludicrously complicated, but really takes under an hour- what a delight!
IMG_2854p IMG_2863p IMG_2867p IMG_2864p
You will need:
-125g of butter, plus a little extra for greasing
-90g golden syrup -90g light Muscovado sugar
-250g rolled oats
-Cake or roasting tin to pop it all in (roughly around 20x30cm)
IMG_2870p IMG_2876p
1. Combine the butter, sugar and maple syrup into a saucepan until all the ingredients have melted and mixed.
IMG_2877p IMG_2879p
2. Stir in the oats (look it's a bit like a real flapjack!)
IMG_2883p
4. Pop into your pre-greased tin and pat it flat (technical term) and pop in your oven (at 180C) for 30 minutes. I left it longer as I was worried it was still too gooey, but once you take it out it does set! (probably obvious...) I also drizzled a little dark chocolate over the top to make it a little more interesting! You could also try sweets or dried fruit!
IMG_2940p
5. Leave to cool until cutting and removing to photograph/eat. Enjoy!
