So! The sun has got his hat on, and I couldn't be happier! Although it initially sent me into a slight sartorial whirlwind (tights? no tights? short shorts? TOO SHORT?) I think I've come to terms with my summer wardrobe, and although I am taking caution as to not become too confident with putting my jumpers away, am loving being able to wear my summer dresses and shorts I've had saved up! This dress is certainly no exception. I like to think it echo's a little bit of Zooey Deschanel's ladylike 50's style, something I certainly look for in the perfect girlie frock. I teamed it with my classic nude brogues, school satchel, cat eyed sunnies and a red lip to finish the look.

Anyway! Today I headed to the Breakfast Club in Hoxton with my dad and brother, for well, some breakfast! With Elvis films showing in the background (G.I Blues on this occasion), Plastic Bertrand and The Marvelette's echoing in the background, fond feelings from yesteryear were apparent from the word go. With dishes appearing as if they'd just arrived fresh from Marks & Spencer's newest advert, I was simply spoilt for choice (but did end up choosing the berry pancakes with maple syrup!) The food was absolutely delicious, and I'm excited to go back and hopefully be able to sample the lunch and dinner menus too. I'd definitely recommend one of their restaurants for breakfast if ever you're in town, such a massive selection, and amazing quality- yummy!

A couple of other things! Recently, I've had a few comments on my make up, and I was curious as to whether anyone would like to see anything more beauty related on my blog? I've been receiving Glossy Boxes, and trying new things of late, but always get a little worried as to whether I should post (as I'm not very clued up in beauty)! Nonetheless, it'd be good to get some feedback!

Additionally, I'm also taking sponsors and adverts for my blog in June! If you'd be interested in having your blog or shop in my sidebar for the coming month, drop me an email- I'd be thrilled to have you there (sorry if you've already seen my tweets!)

Finally, you may have also spotted me in this months Company magazine, sporting a sporty Olympics inspired ensemble, as part of their special festival issue! Tres exciting! There's also some amazing bloggers in there too, so it's definitely worth a peek!

If you've been reading my blog for a while (or perhaps just seen a couple of outfits...) you'll know how I feel about prints (especially on trousers). I won't go on and sound like a broken record about my pure adoration for them, but I think they are the easiest way to make a simply outfit exciting, and far less scary than the disco pants in my last post.

So, when the absolute mega babe, that is Katy at Oasis, contacted me regarding their new scarf print collection, I did a tiny happy dance. Described as 'Inspired by their friend Nicky Albrechtsen and her amazing books about scarves and handkerchiefs, Oasis reworked her vintage pieces into modern styles.' need I say more? With the limited collection including a range of skirts, trousers, blouses and t shirts- there's something for everyone, and look AMAZING in sets or separates.

Anyway! As you can imagine I literally jumped at the chance to style something from the collection, and chose these gorgeous tapered pyjama pants with a slouchy silk tee (which I think looked awesome with the two prints!) I found the pieces hugely easy to throw on, and simple added my go-to lipstick and some 70s style sunnies- voilĂ ! They are also perfect for this weather too, a statement outfit which isn't too heavy or hot! Easy breezy lemon squeezy.

However, that's not all! The lovely ladies at Oasis have offered all readers of my blog 20% AND free next day delivery of off all full price stock, so you can get a slice of the action too (and why would you not want to?!) The codes below are valid until the 16th of June, so get shopping!

6 Ways To Wear: Disco Pants!

Thursday, 24 May 2012

ootd70
Okay, I can't lie- when the 'disco pant' trend first came about (after it's initial birth in the 80's) I was a little worried. The terms 'skin tight, spandex, and figure hugging' (when applied in trouser form) are ones I usually stay far far away from. So, when Republic contacted me asking me to style up a pair of disco pants, I had a tiny panic- what do you wear with them?! After a long hard think it dawned on me. Do they really have to be hard to wear? When thought of like a shiny black skinny jean it was simple. So, above, I have comprised a mini 'ways to wear' guide, and although there are many an 'awkward lean' shown, hopefully it can give you some ideas as to ways to wear them (or even sway you if you're in two minds!) here goes...

(From top left)

Look 1:(Top: Eagles of Death Metal merch, Shoes: Converse)
My first look comes to you inspired by my favourite babe, Drew Barrymore. Think cropped band tee (Eagles of death metal tee shown!) statement (preferably cheesy) sunnies, Converse trainers, messy beachy hair and a red lip.

Look 2: (Dress (used as top): American Apparel, Jacket:Whistles, Shoes: Topshop)
Taken from one of my favourite fictional musical characters, Sandy from Grease. Perhaps not an every day outfit, (but certainly pretty sassy) a tucked in body, chunky biker jacket, with a ladylike peep toe, makes for a figure flattering and (dare i say it) 'edgy' look (if you're in Rydell High anyway...)

Look 3:(Top: French Connection)
My ultimate go-to outfit. A simple Breton striped tee. No fuss. No mess (?). Just good clean stripes. Boom.

Look 4:(Top: Zara, Necklace: New Look, Shoes: Topshop)
I tried something a little more ladylike with this outfit. Contrasting a loose pastel blouse (with matching New Look gem collar) with my new glitter heels made for a slightly more girlie take on the trend.

Look 5:(Top: Topshop, Shoes: Topshop)
The plain white tee ( or shirt) seemed like an obvious option for this look, but nonetheless works pretty well. Need I say more?

Look 6:(Shirt: Next, Shoes: Converse)
My final look is teamed with a fitted denim shirt (could also look good with an oversized denim jacket) and converse, making for a slightly more grungy look.

How would you wear yours? Have you dipped your toes into the disco pant trend?

I'm sorry the colouring went a little odd on these photographs! It seems no matter what I did I couldn't match it up, nevermind eh... Anyway, I'd like to think this gorgeous dress possibly cancels out any bodge editing jobs! Reminiscent of a certain back-to-front print Luella dress, I fell in love with once upon a time on my favourite Alexa, this dress is a subtle nod to the heart cut out and girlie prints that build up the bulk of my (dream) summer wardrobe. Additionally, with the real deal being a somewhat rarity to track down, and at a snip of the designer price (£24!) you'd be silly not to consider paying a visit to the Lavish Alice site...

I teamed it with my favourite glittery daisy shoes and a slick of red lipstick, but am equally as excited to parade it with my chunky biker, a loose denim jacket and perhaps even a plain white tee underneath. What would you team this dress with?

For the first time in what feels like... a very long time I am not wearing trousers! (cool story Liv) but with the weather (a tiny bit) warmer, I welcomed the moment of sunshine with open arms and paraded my pasty pins for all to see! Saying that, it also had something to do with the fact I was wearing a dress that made me feel like a Hawaiian printed Grace Kelly- which, in my opinion, is only a good thing.

Additionally, Mumma P and I ventured to a local tea room called Cabbages and Kings, to enjoy a spot of cream tea and salmon and eggs, which was absolutely delicious. As you may have realised, I LOVE afternoon tea so discovering places that aren't pricey plush restaurants is often a treat in itself - especially when they double up as gift emporiums and are beautifully homely and cosy, perfect! I also realised I'd quite like to be a still life food photographer, I know Winnie is exceptionally good at this kind of thing (if her posts don't make you hungry, nothing will), but can really image that would be my forte, maybe one day...

A Girl Can Dream: Birthday Wishes

Wednesday, 16 May 2012

When it comes to birthdays, I am both the easiest and most difficult person to buy for. Easiest, as I can walk into a shop and say 'Oooh, I LOVE that' to about 98% of what's for sale, difficult because it doesn't really give people any particular ideas. So, with a bit of spare time and a birthday mere weeks away, I thought I'd comprise a list of my absolute favourite things on the high street and online, including some absolutely beautiful dresses , a go-to fragrance and a bag that I can't get enough of...

wishlist7
(1, 2, & 3. Topshop, 4. Vero Moda, 5. Peyton and Byrne, 6. Monki, 7. Boots, 8. Mybag.com )

...and these are my picks! I think my love for printed trousers meant that there simply had to be a pair somewhere in here, and i think these fit the criteria pretty well! I think they'd look gorgeous with my Swedish Hasbeens, a sleeveless white shirt, a lick of red lipstick and some cat eye sunnies - perfect! Topshop also have an absolutely amazing offering of dresses at the moment. I adore the cream one (imagine it with a cool biker...) and love the heart pocket red one, a little like this Vivetta one I posted about on Twitter earlier this week. I also love this Tennis inspired dress from Vero Moda and the oversized printed shift from Monki. This may or may not have something to do with the fact Alexa Chung modelled the Vero Moda number, but either way it's pretty darn lovely. Additionally, I love the Monki dress- would be lovely with a jacket and Chelsea boots- swoon!

My other picks include a Peyton & Byrne Best of British cookbook, my favourite ever fragrance in it's brand new bottle (I collect them!) and the exclusive mint green Cambridge Satchel for Mybag.com, which I fear may be sold out by my birthday- but is definitely eye candy at it's finest! Looks almost good enough to eat...

Is it my imagination, or have I finally found something worth living for

Yes, you saw correctly, it's THE t shirt. The one I didn't buy at Fashion week back in February, went on a wild goose chase for, couldn't find anywhere- and then found in a 'buy it now' section one Sunday shopping (no 'regret it later' applicable here!) and I'm so glad I got it. I suppose you could say this is my attempt of trying to be patriotic and a little bit 'hip and trendy' (yes, I went there) for the day- (red, white and blue anyone?) I teamed my jeans and tee combo with my new favourite Le Bunny Bleu shoes- a subtle nod to the 'creeper brogues' seen on the high street, but a little less fussy, and perfect for puddle hopping in this typically British weather.

Anyway, I guess this all ties in with what I got up to today (puddles and being patriotic key to the events) when my best friend Gemma and I went to my local town to see the Queen! Yes, Lizzie, HRH, Your Majesty! After waking up at the unholy hour of 5:30, we managed to arrive about 7:30 in time for a Starbucks and 3 hours of soggy waiting. However, saying this, I am SO glad I waited around, as managing to get that close to the lady who makes buying stamps so much cooler was the most surreal and wonderful thing ever- and my goodness, she is so sparkly! Even at 86 her skin is amazing- I can tell a million ladies would kill for her secret! She also spoke to all the children that had waited and bought her flowers, so nice! I feel so lucky to have seen her in person, and certainly won't forget it in a hurry!

p.s I couldn't spot the shoes on the website, but they have a new store at Westfield Stratford- which has a huge collection and is certainly worth a visit!

Liv Loves: Wish Magazine

Many moons ago, when 'What Olivia Did' was just a twinkle in my pre-blogging eyes, I became accustomed to visiting a certain few blogs for moments of inspiration, which, soon lulled me into beginning my own. Two of my most visited were those of Carrie and Lucy; two of which projected such unique and beautiful style, partnered with equally delicious photography- making them two must visits on my bookmark list. Fast forward a mere couple of years and those blogs have dreamt up and created something equally as lovely; Wish Magazine. A magazine by girls like you and me, for girls like you and me with a 'peter pan complex' and an offering far more enriching than anything on your local newspaper stand.

So, when an invitation dropped through my letter box a week or so ago, I did a little squeal (and a little 'happy dance'). I couldn't wait to see the creation in the flesh, and was intrigued as to see what made it so different from magazines out there today...

... and what can I say. It didn't disappoint. As beautiful as both the girls blogs, with each feature, photograph and paragraph filled with interesting, relatable and exciting words and thoughts, fashion shoots filled with whimsical (and affordable) clothes, and unique and exciting places to visit- it felt like YOU too, be 'Wish' girl, and boy I can't wait to get my hands on a copy and be one too.

The launch party was nothing short of amazing too. With attention to detail laced upon every last red velvet cupcake, bunting shaped shortbread biscuit and paper flower, it felt like you were in a little fairy world- where everything was almost too good to eat. With perfume and fragrance testing from Penthaligon's, a personalised Wish Cocktail adorned with Hendrick's, knitting classes and live illustrators to hand; it was nothing short of a perfect Sunday afternoon. Oh for every Sunday to be as magical! Well done ladies!
