When I got talking to a certain Miss Healey a few weeks back, we began talking about 'fashion maths' and the art of putting together a really beautiful, and balanced outfit, and it needn't be complicated. After endless oogling over gorgeously crafted inspiration boards on Pintrest, tear-outs and cuttings from magazines and endless Googling of several ladies I regard as style icons, I think I've finally mastered a fluid and consistent style I will always go to, when in doubt.

Above, using some gems I've dug out on the Avenue 32 website, from crisp Oxford shirts, Cutler and Gross sunnies and women's shoes at Avenue 32- I've created an outfit I will always put together when in a wardrobe rut, using the inspiration of some seriously sixties babes; Jackie O (I now need a Kennedy style hat), Catherine Deneuve for some essential Parisian chic and Anna Karina for some general all round fabulousness. There's something so timeless, diverse and ultimately simple about the style of the sixties- which I'm pretty sure is where it's charm lies, and pretty much why every girl living in the twenty first century wishes they were born then. The fact you can throw together something so-absurdly school-girlish (see above mood board) or something so completely grown-up and well cut, makes this era one of the most fun and playful to recreate; and certainly something I never tire of experimenting with- be it the clothing or the music...

x

I'm thinking of perhaps putting a series of these together if anyone would be interested, so do let me know!

  2. That outfit is perfection! My real sixties icon is Edie Sedgwick, no plans to start rocking leotards but she always looked fabulous :)

  6. I agree with you! I love the style asthetic of the early 60's, (and fifties). it's so effortlessly chic, timeless & feminine. From the more glamorous (Jackie O, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn) to the cool & effortless (Anna Karina, Catherine Deneuve), I love them all :)

Don't get me started, I could go on forever lol! I think coco Chanel said it best "Fashion fades. Style remains the same". I'd enjoy a series like this xx

  9. I love this post Olivia, the outfit is so you, can totally imagine you wearing that. Your style is always very put together (in such a lovely way) ladylike and very british, a little bit preppy and with just a hint of glamour - i love it.

I am not sure if i have a real style icon…..i think she is probably the girl on the street…which sounds a little vague!!xxxxx

  18. Haha 'school-girlish' is my screensaver style also! Cant go wrong with some boucle and a bow-tie! I would adore one of those hats but my head is so ginormous it would probably look like a teacup atop my ginormous bonce. Tragic! x
