On Trend: Sports Luxe

Tuesday, 21 August 2012

When I think of my style, the one word that doesn't come to mind is 'sporty'. To get me into a tracksuit, you either have to back-track 5 years to when I was embarrassingly (and breathlessly) attempting the 'bleep test' in P.E, catch me on a super lazy day, or pay me a great deal of money (or motivation) to get me out and exercising.

However, with the key trend of 'Sports Luxe' carrying us through spring and summer, through to Autumn Winter, and Olympics fever taking over it feels almost rude not to try and give a subtle nod to the trend somehow, preferably without pulling out my striped knee highs are polo shirts.

However, working in Whistles, I have been surrounded by the trend, and may have ever so slightly succumbed to it's chic ways. With leather, silk, crepe, and jersey being the key fabrics; and stripes, clean lines and slouchy silhouettes building the basis of the look, it's far easier to achieve than I'd first anticipated.

After searching the internet I picked out some of my favourite takes on the look, and only then realised it's probably far easier to build a sporty look than I thought, perfect! With Topshop, Zalando and H&M Trend being the source of many key pieces, there's no need to whip out your old P.E kit, and combing pj style trousers, simple cut t shirts, clean cut blouses and wedge trainers is the basic recipe for success- see you at the finish line!

  1. I've seen a few 'sportesque' pieces in H&M and they always look great styled in the catalogue. I just don't think it's me, it reminds me too much of the gym and PE classes all those years ago!

  5. Great take on the sports trend - Love the leather backpacks with the plaited hair and hooded tops. Why was this not the required uniform in P.E? Thank goodness I don't have to dig out the white donnay t-shirt and black shorts :)

  7. Hey

Well I am a longboarder (and female), so I try not to look like some sports mad fan when on it. Instead I wear my normal clothes and wear a pair of converse... looks good...

  8. I have to say, I'm a fan of it on other people but not on me. It just doesn't feel right on me. I do like the little leather backpacks though!

  15. It's a staple look here in Denmark, dress, jeans whatever and throw running shoes with it and call it a day, but I love that it's traveling, and seeming to have staying power. And honestly those Nikes are pretty darn comfortable.

  16. Oh gosh. I just finished my last year of Secondary School and am about to go into sixth form, but, alas, I still have nightmares about 'fitness fortnight'. We had a three week period (I know, our school forgot that a fortnight was only two...) after Christmas where for two hours a week we had to do the most horrific sports activities known to mankind. The last time we had fitness fortnight, we were doing the bleep test and a cross country run in 1 1/2 feet of snow. Oops, apologies, I forgot to read the fashion bit after you mentioned bleep tests! *scrolls back up* x
