(Florence and The Machine, Good Shoes, The Drums, We Are Scientists)
If you've read my blog for any period of time, you'll know that to me, music is pretty much as important to me as fashion. Although it rarely plays a huge part in my outfit posts and general lifestyle content, even down to the lyric titles (which I probably spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about). I've been thinking a while about including some more music related content into my blog, whether it be playlists, reviews or anything else; but thought I'd begin with some of my favourite live gig photographs.

(The Drums, The Vaccines, Lykke Li, The Drums, Spector, Florence, Spector )
Whether it be a small record shop tucked away in the depths of East London, to sneaking my DSLR into one of my favourite gig venues (not always recommended) I always try and make sure I have some way of recording my favourite gigs, and you get to know which venues will accept which cameras (many only take small digital compact ones), meaning you can certainly prepare!

(The Vaccines, Tribes, Spector, Smith Westerns, Tribes)
Having never had the privilege of a photographer of press pass to a gig, I've managed to make do and have selected some of my favourite photos I've taken (on film, with a Nikon D40 and Canon 500d). Additionally, to get the best pictures I can, I'm usually nerding it up at the front hours before the band begin and playing around with settings ensuring I don't get too many blurred snaps, however I've heard tales of awesome iPhone snaps!
I'd love to hear if you'd be interested in anything more musical on my blog- answers on a post card!

Those photos are amazing! You're a great photographer x
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see some more music-related posts; music is a big part of my life too... I'm too scared to try and sneak my DSLR in to gigs with me so I always have to settle with using a compact camera, but you have taken some amazing photos!

I love music photography too, it's always been something that rivals my love for fashion. I get so annoyed about not being able to take my DSLR to most gigs, I have to make do with a little point and shoot which does the job, but never as well!

Lost in the Haze: a Fashion Photography Blog
bloody hell, i was at almost all of these (apart from florence, that photo makes me want to cry) such nice quality photos, i always used to hang around for doors and stand at the barrier for hours, but i've got too lazy now! x
ReplyDeleteWow such incredibly photos, very jealous of how close you were to Flo! I'd love to see more music posts on your blog, I always love seeing what kinds of bands other people can recommend. Music has this amazing way to connect

Looks like you had an amazing time! x
ReplyDeleteThe guy in the 8th picture (I think it's The Vaccines?!) weirdly reminds me of Ian Curtis!

These photos are amazing, I'd love to see Florence! I hate venues that don't allow cameras in, I have so many blurry pictures of Mark Hoppus on my iPhone aha. I'd love to read some posts on gigs that you go to! xx
ReplyDeleteThese photo's are incredible! It's not very often you get to see good photographs like these from gigs. I'd definitely be interested in reading more xx
ReplyDeletelove it :) you're an incredible photographer. so pleased that you posted this :) x
ReplyDeleteFlorence, Lykke Li, The Drums, The Vaccines?! Can't believe they all played at Rough Trade!
ReplyDeleteYou have incredible taste in music and are very lucky to have seen them all live! These photos are lovely Olivia :)
XO
Getting a photo pass is so difficult, I'm a photographer, have my own website etc and have still managed to get only 2 photo passes over the years. It's a shame 99% of venues don't allow SLR's in England, in Europe they pretty much all do! Great photos by the way!
ReplyDeletethese are fantastic, olivia. well done! it's lovely to see your other interests on your blog - i loved the music posts from your earlier days just as much as i love your posts now.
ReplyDeletealso, i'm using my ipad and can see for the first time that your background is patterned! amazed.
xx
Amazing images, really some of these are breathtaking. Well done. So lucky to see The Drums, I love them.

Definitely would love to read more music posts :) - it is a good way to encourage others to check out other bands too. x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photography. I recently got a press pass for a festival and was snapping people. I didn't realise until the last moment that I actually had a photographer pass waiting for me Ooops. You shouldn't definitely pursue music photography, its hard not to get a bunch of blurred shots x
ReplyDeleteI clicked on the post because of Florence and I just died when I saw LYKKE LI!!!!! OMG!!! I would LOVE to go to a concert of hers. She is amazing amazing amazing!!!!! If only she would come to the states! I'd follow her like a river XD

oh my! These photographs are amazing. I'd definately be interested in seeing more music related posts (and maybe a few more pointers on how to take gig photos like these too!) :) x
ReplyDeleteAmazing shots, especially the Drums ones! And music posts will be awesome- you have awesome taste! It's nice to read about someone with similar tastes to me (ie. lots of British music) and being from Australia, I find no one really knows who I'm talking about when I'm blabbing on about Arctic Monkeys, The Vaccines, etc. so it will be great to read!
ReplyDeleteOh good God these photos are so beautiful! I love music photography, something I'd love to do as a career if i'm honest. I've been a photographer for a little band in one of the 02 academy venues (back when they were carling academys) and it was the best experience ever. I wish I could take photos as good as you though!xo
ReplyDeletethese photos are stunning <3 They look as good as any press ones! Love the ones of Spector ;) xx

ReplyDeleteI'd definitely love to see more music related posts in the future. xx

Great photos!!!! and great choice in music. You could defiantly combine what you wear to gigs and snaps of the show :)
ReplyDeleteYour photos are wicked, if only I had the bottle to sneak in my SLR. I'm so small so I usually try and get places early to get at the front. Your photos of Spector are my favourite.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed!!! Did you manage to take all of those photos!! Wow! I love most of those bands and those I don't I'm going to look into! Definitely do more music posts, I would love to hear what you do and who you listen to :)
