When it comes to thick snow and ice, and splashing in puddles, there are very few boots and shoes that can take the conditions gracefully. There have been numerous occassions when wearing my favourite leather boots seemed like a brilliant idea, until their flat soles led me to falling flat on my face or otherwise coming close. The same goes for my new suede wedges, perfect for dry weather but as soon as they get wet, that's it. That's why I am blessed to have bought a pair of Dr Martens before the winter weather came along.

(8 eye Cherry Red smooth Dr Marten- £75)

Although they may not appear incredibly flattering or anything special to the naked eye, these boots have gotten me through every weather condition going- the inches of mud and slush at Reading festival, the 10+ inches of snow, rain and general everyday wear.

And despite prehaps looking like everyday 'workmans' boots, they can work to every 'fashionistas' advantage in the blink of an eye. All it takes is careful colour choosing (I chose Cherry Red or 'Oxblood' and they go with everything and suit the camel trend that has invaded our wardrobes!) and the correct sizing and you're good to go. These boots can also toughen up an otherwise girlie outfit, and look fantastic with tights and jeans. You can also play around with experimental shapes on top such as capes and shawls making the look girlie and 'chic'.

(all pictures from The Satorialist and Facehunter)

So, if you're struggling to find the perfect pair of winter/spring/summer/autumn boots then why not invest in a pair of DM's, with the amazing price tag (£75) and a whole range of styles (fur? heeled?) you'll most definitely get your money's worth out of them.

  3. So true, they're a classic! I bought the heeled patent 'diva darcie' ones a few weeks ago- not quite as practical as the flat ones, but surprisingly comfortable! I love the ones you got, I love that classic red colour
